All Sylvan Hills coach Denny Tipton had to do on Tuesday was hand the ball to Marcus Long, and Long made Tipton look like a smart baseball coach.
Long allowed no runs in three innings of game one and four innings of game two in a double header sweep of Helena-West Helena on Tuesday.
Long started game one and went all three frames of a 15-0 win and the first four of game two, a game the Bears won 10-0.
“He just filled up the strike zone,” Tipton said.
Long sat down 11 hitters with strikeouts over the seven innings of work. He walked just two.
T.J. Burrows finished up the final two innings of game two with a pair of strikeouts of his own.
The double-header sweep capped off an up and down week for Tipton’s Bears.
A sweep of Jacksonville, winning 6-0 and 3-1 was paired by a tough loss to North Little Rock, 7-6 in nine innings.
“We had them,” Tipton said. “We were up and they tied the game in the sixth. Too many errors and they didn’t hit one out of the infield.”
North Little Rock scored four runs in the sixth and went ahead in the ninth to win.
