The Sylvan Hills Lady Bears are in search of something that they can’t necessarily put their hands on.
It isn’t wins, though this will eventually lead to wins. It isn’t chemistry. Not yet, anyway. It isn’t even a particular type of player.
The Lady Bears need consistency as coach Shelly Davis said.
“We’ve played hard probably for a quarter and a half,” Davis said of her team’s first four games.
All four losses have been by double digits including a 57-47 loss to Vilonia on Tuesday.
“We are just so sporadic,” Davis said.
The Lady Bears had two in double figures on Tuesday with Ryen Hendricks leading the way with 19 and Courtney Boutte with 13.
Davis said there isn’t much to blame for her team’s early inconsistency other than them being young.
“I’ll blame it on youth,” Davis said, “as many times as I have to say it.”
Davis said she has seen flashes of greatness out of her team at times coming back from a double digit deficit against Forrest City, but fell off again midway through the fourth quarter and wound up losing by 30 points.
Davis also said the problems aren’t unfixable.
“If these girls will keep listening, and keep learning then we’ll get better,” Davis said.
They will see Watson Chapel once again, this time at home next week.
