The Abundant Life Owls took on one of the better teams in the conference Monday night and couldn’t quite keep up in a 67-45 loss to the England Lions.
Glenn Ford and AJ Akin helped the Owls keep the game pretty close throughout the first half. Ford scored eight points, while Akin added six points as Abundant Life trailed England 30-22 at halftime.
England turned up the defense in the third quarter, while top offensive threats DeVonte Patterson and Tyrik Harris stayed hot and helped the Lions pull away. Patterson scored nine in the third quarter for the Lions, while Harris added eight points as England led 53-32 heading into the fourth quarter.
Patterson led all scorers with 25 points. Harris added 19 points.
Akin led Abundant Life with 15 points, while Daniel Carrell scored 10 points for the Owls. Ford finished his night with nine points. Hayden Greenwood and Matt Elliot each made a three-pointer, Rick Eudy scored three points, and Andrew Epperson added a basket.
Last week, the trio of Ford, Akin and Carrell carried the Owls to a 48-41 win over Woodlawn.
Carrell led the way with 17 points, followed by Akin with 16 points and Ford with 15. Akin scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half.
The Owls led 26-22 at halftime and held off a Woodlawn three-point barrage in the second half to hold on to the win.
