Jordan Harrelson, 27, of Sherwood was arrested on charges of burning without a permit, refusal to submit to arrest, public intoxication and disorderly conduct after police were dispatched to a field behind Powhattan Apartments in reference to a fire in the wood line.

Upon arrival, police made contact with Harrelson and told him someone had called to report a fire in the wood line. Harrelson told police he started a small fire for his children. Officers advised him that starting a fire was against city ordinance if he did not have a permit and he would need to extinguish it.

Harrelson said he was unaware of the city ordinance that he needed to get a permit and he was burning tree limbs. While police were talking with him, they could hear his speech slurred and could smell an odor of intoxicants coming from his person.

Harrelson took his children back to his home and returned to extinguish the fire. After the fire was put out, he was asked to return to his home several times but argued with police about why they were there.
