The July unemployment rate for Sherwood rose to 5.4 percent from 5.2 percent in June and May, according to data from the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services.
Sherwood tied with Springdale and Bentonville for the lowest rate in the state with 5.4 percent.
Pulaski County as a whole registered a July unemployment rate of 7.0 percent, which is up from the June rate of 6.9 percent and 6.7 percent in May.
Carroll County — at 5.5 percent — recorded the lowest county level July unemployment rate in Arkansas, while Lee County had the highest rate at 12.3 percent.
The state unemployment rate for July came in at 7.4 percent, which matches the national average for the month of 7.4 percent.
“Arkansas’ unemployment rate reached 7.4 percent this month,” said Bernadette Coleman, ADWS program operations manager. “This is the same rate as in July 2012. There are currently 1,700 fewer unemployed compared to this month last year.”
