Approximately two acres are being cleared at the corner of Brockington Road and Kiehl Avenue to make way for another gasoline station/convenience store in Sherwood.
According to building permits filed in the Sherwood City Engineer’s Office, a Mapco Mart is being constructed at the site. The property is zoned C-3 for commercial purposes.
While there have been gasoline stations in the area for many years, larger style stations have been built in the area in the last year or so, including the Kum & Go Station located on East Kiehl Avenue at the corner of Lantrip Road.
According to the application, the project has received the approval of Sherwood City Planning and Zoning authorities and is being constructed by Barge Waggoner Sumner Cannon of Nashville, Tenn.
Contractors were advised by city authorities that they had met all state and city construction codes in the fall of 2013.
The project started on Jan. 1 and is expected to be completed by July.
A significant amount of change has taken place in the past decade in the Brockington Road area.
Several years ago, the city obtained federal and state grant funds to turn Brockington Road into a four-lane thoroughfare from Kiehl to Arkansas 107 just outside Gravel Ridge.
Sherwood city leaders at the time were trying to widen some city roads to lessen traffic congestion during the early morning and late afternoon commutes.
