One of the most dedicated volunteers at Heart & Hooves in Sherwood passed away recently.
His name was JB and those who loved him say he brought a lot of smiles and help to many who rode him.
“It is with a heavy heart that I write to you, to tell you we lost a valued member of our herd today,” said Liz Marg of Hearts & Hooves, who spoke of the horse’s recent passing away.
JB was 21 years old when he passed away.
“He had been having minor health issues, and was under veterinary care,” said Marg. She said JB ate his feed the night before he died and looked comfortable.
During the time of his death, he was lying down in his stall while feeding time was taking place.
“A staff person was with him, comforting him when he passed,” Marg said.
Marg said the Hearts & Hooves family feels good that JB was comforted during his passing away but he is still missed.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden loss of this gentle giant,” Marg said. “He was an animal of tremendous patience, and loved people.”
She added, “JB has helped many equestrians through his life hone and improve their skills. Here at Hearts & Hooves, many of our special equestrians have felt the thrill of independent riding for the first time aboard the tallest member of the herd. Thank you, JB, for all the joy you’ve given and shared with us through the years. You will be so greatly missed.”
