Beebe announces intent to pardon Sherwood man

Gov. Mike Beebe today announced his intent to grant a pardon for a Sherwood man.

Steve W. Spears of Sherwood was convicted of cocaine possession in 1989 in Pulaski County.

Beebe’s office said the decision was based on the date of conviction, the fact that all terms of the applicant’s sentence have been completed and there have been no further criminal-law violations. There are no law-enforcement objections to the application.

In total, Beebe announced two commutations and three pardons. An additional 49 clemency requests were denied and 17 had no action taken upon them. These include requests from both inmates and non-inmates.
