Johnny Rice still has the interim tag as basketball coach at North Little Rock High School.
Even after winning the 7A boys basketball title, and, also defeating the, 6A champion in Little Rock Hall, the 6A runner-up Jonesboro, twice and the 5A champion in Jacksonville, twice, during the regular season.
North Little Rock never lost to an in-state team and finished nationally ranked by several different publications.
That still wasn’t enough to lose “interim.”
That all might change tonight as the North Little Rock School Board will meet and Rice’s employment status is scheduled to be discussed.
It isn’t like Rice needs anything else added to his resume, but he went and ahead and got it on Wednesday afternoon as it was announced he will be the head coach for the East All Star high school team.
Assisting Rice will be Brad Francis, of Harding Academy, Isaac Middlebrooks at Cedar Ridge and Bobby Gross of Brookland, while the West head coach will be Pottsville’s Shane Thurman.
The All Star game will be played on Thursday, June 20 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
The girls game will start at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow.
