Don’t look now, but the North Little Rock Lady Charging Wildcats are on a roll.
After their win Monday, North Little Rock is riding a conference winning streak having won four of their first five volleyball games in the 7A/6A-East.
“They are coming together quickly,” head coach Leslie Joshua said.
Joshua admitted to being pleasantly surprised by the fast start once the conference slate started.
“They are just so young,” Joshua said, “but they are a really good team.”
Talent has indeed overtaken the lack of experience for North Little Rock, but Joshua said the leadership of veteran Jessica Crow has been the key.
“She’s my setter,” Joshua said. “She knows what’s going on out there, and she’s the quarterback.”
If there’s one thing that Joshua is a bit concerned about is how her Lady Charging Wildcats handle road games. Their lone league loss came at Jonesboro, and with trips to Marion and West Memphis looming, Joshua said her team needs to find a fix.
“The Marion trip has me concerned,” Joshua said.
The mental aspect of being on the road and making long trips to Eastern Arkansas is part of being in the league the Charging Lady Wildcats find themselves residing, and there is a log jam at the top with Jonesboro, North Little Rock, and Cabot all having just one conference setback.
But the way the schedule plays out, North Little Rock will see their opponents again before the playoffs start. Hopefully, there will be some separation at the top in order to avoid any tiebreaker confusion.
North Little Rock remains in the thick of that confusion and hopes to come out as close to the top as possible. They may be full of surprises.
