North Little Rock hosts regional baseball tournament this week

The American Legion Baseball Mid-South Regional Tournament will be held Thursday through Monday at Vince DeSalvo Stadium at Burns Park in North Little Rock.

“It’s truly impressive what these young men have accomplished so far,” said Jeral Howard, Arkansas State Chairman of American League Baseball. “If you compare the wins and losses of the teams competing in this tournament, you will be shocked.”

This will be the first time that the tournament has been hosted by North Little Rock, which will also host next year’s tournament.

The schedule for the first day of games, today, is as follows:

• Game 1, 9:30 a.m. – Hays, Kansas vs. Tupelo, Miss.

• Game 2, 9:30 a.m. – Midwest City, Okla. vs. Columbia, Tenn.

• Game 3, 4:30 p.m. – Blue Springs, Mo. vs. Texarkana.

• Game 4, 7 p.m. – Gonzales, La. vs. North Little Rock.

The Thursday games will be followed by an opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m., featuring former Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady singing the national anthem, presentation of the color guard, and the reading of the sportsmanship code. All umpires, host committee chairmen, national staff and the players will be introduced as well.

The tournament is open to the public. Individual session tickets are $8 and $4 for children ages six-12. Children under six get in free. Entire tournament tickets can be purchased on-site for $50 or $40 online.

“We hope the community will come out and support these players and see some great amateur baseball,” Howard said. “The winner of this regional tournament will go on to represent us in the World Series.”

The Mid-South Region includes teams from Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee. For the complete tournament schedule and more information, visit www.Legion.org/Baseball/Tournaments/Midsouth
