NORTH LITTLE ROCK BASEBALL | Tryouts to be held next week

North Little Rock will hold baseball tryouts next week.

Tuesday and Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m. both nights at Burns Park, head coach Randy Sandefur will begin meeting candidates for the 2014 Charging Wildcats’ baseball squad.

The Charging Wildcats’ head coach said players need to show up with a parental consent form, a physical and equipment to try out.

He’ll be looking to fill spots on both the varsity and freshman squads, although he admits he won’t be able to replace some of the leadership that graduated last season.

Catcher Alex Gosser, whom Sandefur used as a coaching extension on the field, is suiting up for the Razorbacks this season.

“You don’t just replace a guy like that,” Sandefur said.

But the Charging Wildcats have pieces beginning with a nice pitching staff led by Preston Oblerman whom Sandefur says is getting some next level attention already.

The Charging Wildcats will be hard pressed to improve on a 21-win regular season. What they hope to improve upon is their performance in the playoffs having lost in the second round, their only game in the 7A postseason.

That process begins officially this coming week.
