Cooler, drier temperatures provided the perfect backdrop Saturday morning as the Lakewood Waves hosted their second home swim meet of the season. A visitor was overheard saying “This is the best organized meet I’ve ever been to” as the Waves welcomed the Saline County Barracudas and the Conway Crocodiles.
The Waves enjoyed the fruit of their hard work at practice as they dropped seconds from their times and achieved some personal goals.
Some achievements worth noting are: Sophia Wankum (6) shaving over 33 seconds off her kickboard time. Abigail Huff (6) beat her own freestyle time by over two seconds, while Tyus Diaz (9) swam over 15 seconds faster.
Backstroke major improvements were Emilyn Noel (8) dropping over 6 seconds, Joanna Huff (8) dropping over 13 seconds while Jack Seabaugh improved his own time by more than 5 seconds.
One of the Waves highlights was our boys 18 & under relay team (Ethan Lutjen 16, Josh Landers 16, Hayden DePreist 13, and Grant Smith 12) taking first place.
Emily Marlin (13) moved into the Gold division of breast stroke while Josie Cochran (12) and Katie Jones (14) both moved into the Silver division.
Maddie Walters (11) dropped over 5 seconds in her butterfly and her sister Lizzie (8) dropped 9 seconds and moved into the silver division. Presley Morris also went silver in her first butterfly swim ever!
Aurora King and her mother Katrina, danced a victory dance as Aurora moved into the Silver division in the IM.
The Central Arkansas Swim League enjoys a break this week for the 4th of July holiday and the Waves will compete in Maumelle on July 13 for their last regular meet of the season.
