Lela Lewis

Lela Louise Kirkendoll Lewis, 80, died Friday, April 12, 2013. She was born May 20, 1932, at Clinton.

She was a member of Forty-Seventh Street Baptist Church in North Little Rock since 1960. She taught young girls Sunday school classes. She worked for the North Little Rock Times weekly newspaper for twenty years as a composer and part-time food editor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Bertha (Huggins) Kirkendoll; granddaughter, Jessica Danielle Lewis; grandson, Lloyd James Lewis; brother, Howard Kirkendoll; and sister, Ruth Isom.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Lloyd Donald Lewis; sons, Donald S. Lewis and wife Julie, Kenny J. Lewis both of North Little Rock; grandsons, Derek K. Lewis of North Little Rock and Joshua C. Lewis of Fayetteville; granddaughters, Rachel L. Cotroneo and husband Jon and Kasey L. Lewis all of Fayetteville; great-granddaughter, Ella Faye Lewis; sisters, Faye Wilson of Lindsey, Calif., Loretta Ming and husband Jim of Chino Valley, Ariz.; and brother, Larry Kirkendoll and wife Linda of Farmersville Calif.; and many nephews and nieces.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, April 16 at Arkansas State Veterans’ Cemetery.
