Mayor Joe Smith announced the chief of the North Little Rock Fire Department, Robert Mauldin, has decided to retire effective July 1.

“Chief Mauldin has served our city incredibly well for the past 41 years as a member of the North Little Rock Fire Department,” said Mayor Smith. “The last five years he has been a highly regarded leader of one of the most professional and respected fire departments in the state. I have truly enjoyed working with him and we are sorry to see him go. I wish him an exciting retirement.”

Smith will begin the process of choosing a new fire chief immediately and expects to conduct a nationwide search for the next head of North Little Rock’s fire department. “This is an important position within our city and I owe it to the residents and our firefighters to look everywhere for the most capable individual to lead the department,” said Smith.
