NLR’s Major elected to Board of Southeast Tourism Society

Bob Major, Executive Director of the North Little Rock Visitors Bureau, has been elected to a two-year term on the board of the Southeast Tourism Society, according to its President and CEO Bill Hardman.

Major, who has been Director at the Visitors Bureau since 2012, will serve through 2015.

The society is headquartered in Atlanta and promotes travel and tourism throughout a 12-state region. Tourism ranks as the first, second or third industry in every state in the Southeast. Alisa Bailey, CEO of the Charleston, W. Va., Convention and Visitors Bureau, is the society’s board chairman.

Member states are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The society has more than 800 members who represent state tourism departments, convention and visitors bureaus, attractions, accommodations, media and other companies and organizations in the tourism industry.

Major said he is pleased to serve the society in a leadership capacity.

“I am honored to represent the convention and visitors bureaus of medium-sized cities like North Little Rock on the board of the Southeast Tourism Society,” Major said. “Besides networking with other tourism professionals across the south, I will participate in the sharing and implementation of ideas to enhance the overall tourist experience in our region. We have a real advantage here in North Little Rock because of our proximity to Little Rock coupled with great dining and lodging opportunities for tourists.”

Major was previously employed by the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce as Special Events Director from 2007-2011. After a 30-year career with Southwestern Bell Telephone/AT&T, Major retired in 2000 as Arkansas Sales & Marketing Manager. He is a lifelong resident of North Little Rock and has been an active member of the community serving on various boards and committees, including President of the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Central Arkansas Transit Authority Board of Directors.
