United States Daughters of 1812 (U.S.D. 1812) members Jeanette Frahm, Mary Reid Warner and Sheila Beatty recently attended the two-day annual seminar and book fair of the Arkansas Genealogical Society, held in North Little Rock. There were attendees from eight states. The featured speaker was J. Mark Lowe, a full-time professional researcher and educator. Among his notable clients are “Who Do You Think You Are?” “African American Lives,” and the Biography Channel’s “uneXplained”. Representing U.S.D.1812, the ladies recruited new members.

In addition to recruiting ladies for membership in U.S.D. 1812, assistance was given to men in Arkansas who are interested in forming a state society for the General Society War of 1812. Membership in the General Society War of 1812 is open to any man who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who gave military service during the War of 1812. For information on how to become an Arkansas charter member, contact John Speer at 501-922-1860 or email him at jspeer@suddenlink.net or Corey Burns at 501-448-2335 or email paratac@ymail.com .

The U.S.D. 1812, with over 160 chapters across the nation, promotes patriotism, preserves and increases knowledge of the history of the American people by preservation of documents and relics, marks historic spots, records family histories and traditions, and emphasizes the heroic deeds of the civil, military and naval life of those who molded this Government between the close of the American Revolution and the close of the War of 1812.

In celebration of the Bi-Centennial of the U.S.D. 1812, Arkansas U.S.D. 1812 has an on-going effort to mark the graves of 1812 veterans buried in the Arkansas which has been estimated to be over 400. Any woman over eighteen years of age who is of direct lineal descent from an ancestor who rendered civil, military, or naval service to our Country during the years 1793-1815, inclusive, shall be eligible for membership. For information regarding U.S.D. 1812, contact State President Sheila Beatty at 501-915-0456.
