Lakewood Elementary 5th graders raise money for water in Sudan

After reading the book, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park, Mrs. Thomas’ 5th Grade Class at Lakewood Elementary School decided to take action to help the people of Sudan and raise funds to add an additional well which will provide clean water to that region.

The students designed and made buttons to sell. The class raised $667 that will be sent to The Water for Sudan Inc. to help with the building of the new well.

The fifth grade students worked hard learning about Africa, the people, and the problems they face dealing with dirty water. These students showed compassion, empathy, and hard work trying to help people around the world.
