For over 12 years, Pulaski County Youth Services (PCYS) has been providing an annual financial literacy summer camp program called Youthonomics: Investing in Your Future.
This one-week, half-day program for Pulaski County ninth-12th graders help prepare youth for future financial success through teaching principles of money management, banking, saving, investing, consumer protection and more.
Youth participate in classroom activities designed to provide them with a hands-on learning opportunity with real-world application.
Two financial literacy classes are taught each day by professionals from The Student Loan Guarantee Foundation of Arkansas. Other components include daily presentations from finance professionals and processing activities and games.
On the last day of the program, students participate in a financial simulation game called “Get Real, Here’s the Deal,” with the Pulaski County Cooperative Extension. The program is followed by a graduation event and all participants who meet the program requirements receive a $50 savings account from a local bank.
