Choral society to perform Messiah

The Arkansas Choral Society will perform portions of George Frideric Handel’s oratorio Messiah at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at First Pentecostal Church, 1400 Calvary Road (off Interstate 40), North Little Rock.

The 60-voice choir will be under the direction of Music Director Kent Skinner and will be joined by members of the University of Arkansas at Monticello chamber choir and members of the Arkansas Symphony. The concert will also feature selected solos and choruses (including “Hallelujah” and “Amen”) from Parts II and III.

The Choral Society was founded in 1930 and has performed Handel’s Messiah in whole or in part every year since.

Dr. Kent Skinner is currently the Conductor of Choral Activities for the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he leads the choral program and serves as both stage and music director for the university’s opera and music theatre.
