Mena scored first on an interception returned for a touchdown, but didn’t get any more points until the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the Maumelle Hornets tallied 37 unanswered points to defeat the Bearcats, 37-13, last Friday.

The Hornets (3-1, 1-0 4A-4) were able to overcome a total of three interceptions and one fumble to hold off Mena. Maumelle tallied 14 points each in the first and second quarters and added nine in the third period for the victory.

Quarterback Tyshun Robinson tied the contest at 7-all with 7:52 left in the first quarter on his 30-yard run. With 1:13 left in the first quarter, Robinson found JB Minix for an 11-yard touchdown. After both kicks by Hunter Cockrell, Maumelle led 14-7 after the first period.

Two more scores in the second quarter gave the Hornets a commanding 28-7 halftime lead. With 5:49 left in the second period, Corry Cullins broke loose and scampered 60 yards for the touchdown. Three minutes later, Jessie Hopkins scored from 10 yards outs. Cockrell was good on both kicks.
