Marlins win easy

The Maumelle Marlins started their season last Saturday and cruised to an easy win in the three-team meet held in Maumelle.

Maumelle’s girls team amassed 228 points for the first place win. Conway was second with 176 and Lakewood came in with 64 points.

For the boys, Maumelle finished with 211 points, while Conway was again second with 186 and Lakewood finished with 60.

Maumelle had 439 points in combined scores to finish first.

Five team records were by Marlins swimmers at the meet, three by Will Sims in the 7 and 8 age group and two by Spencer Hazen in the 13 and 14s.

Sims swam 1:31.31 in the 100-yard individual medley, 15.29 in the 25 yards free and 18.56 in the 25 yard fly. Sims also set the record in the 6 and under in the 25 yard free in 2012.

Spencer Hazen set the new record in the 50 yard free in the 13 and 14s with 24.25. Hazen also has the record in the same event in the 11 and 12s as he is tied with Jacob Toland. Hazen also has a new record in the 50-yard breast with 33.44.

Hazen, again, has the record in the same event for the 11 and 12s.
