Several locals will be among the fields for the Arkansas State Golf Association Junior Match Play Championships when they are contested next week at Eagle Hill Golf and Athletic Club in Little Rock.
At press time, a field of 51, including seven locals, was set for the Junior Boys Match. Three of the 14 entered in the girls tournament are local golfers.
“Strong field for both divisions,” said Stephanie Hopkins of Maumelle, director of junior/women’s golf for the ASGA. “This tournament will determine the top four boys and girls in points who will attend the second annual Southern Junior Cup held this year in Mississippi.”
The boys field will include Logan Joseph, Caleb Kubacak, Cole Pangburn and Ryan Spurlock of Maumelle; Cain Gunnett and Peyton Herald of Sherwood and Austin Bowen of North Little Rock. At press time, 51 boys had registered.
Fourteen girls had entered the event, including three local girls: Taylor Loeb and Allie Weiner of Maumelle and Hannah Bakalekos of Sherwood.
At press time, Kubacak was the leading local player on the Junior Boys Player of the Year list. He was 12th with 163 points; Cameron McRae of Little Rock led the list with 404.16.
Bakalekos stood sixth on the girls list with 261 points. Loeb was seventh with 235; Weiner was 12th with 130. Stephanie Leake of Little Rock was atop the standings with 537.5.
Qualifying rounds for the 64-player boys bracket and the 16- or eight-player (depending on number of participants) girls bracket will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday, July 22. The boys will play double rounds of match play Tuesday through Thursday with the championship set for Thursday afternoon.
The girls tournament will conclude Wednesday, July 24.
The Conway Country Cub Junior Stroke will wind up the junior schedule July 29-30.
