Hornets flying into Burns Park

The Maumelle Boy’s soccer team with an overall 11-1 record will enter the state tournament as 4A-3 Conference Champs,

with a 7-0-conference record.

Thw Hornets have shown consistency throughout the conference season, allowing only a single goal in conference play, and, overall, the Hornets have scored 47 goals and allowed just four.

The Hornets began the season by winning the Crittenden County Classic Tournament in West Memphis and also won a tournament at Southside Batesville Tournament. They also defeated Central Arkansas Christian in a non-conference match.

State Tournament play begins this Friday at 4 p.m. when Maumelle will face Arkadelphia at Burns Park. If the Hornets win, they’ll face the winner of Berryville-Warren at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The semifinals would be at noon on Monday. Maumelle could potentially get a rematch against CAC then. The winn advances to the state finals to be held at the University of Arkansas.

“We were fortunate enough to have every player return this year giving us the opportunity to pick up exactly where we left off without having to work on rebuilding,” said coach Brandon Ricketts. “Because of this familiarity with each other, we have had the opportunity to try out new formations and schemes that I think have truly helped us be as successful as we were this season. We’ve got a great group of young people and I am truly proud of the way that they have not only won games, but how they have handled themselves in difficult situations.”
