Central Arkansas Christian’s softball team has battled weather en route to a 4-7 mark thus far this season, but Amy Zini’s Lady Mustangs are 1-0 in the 7-4A after Monday’s win at Arkansas Baptist.
The Lady Mustangs survived that one, 11-8.
“We are hitting much better as a team this year after putting in a lot of extra hitting time in the offseason,” Zini said.
Freshman Taylor Kittinger hit back-to-back home runs against Mayflower last week. Zini said junior Rachel Basham “also launched a bomb” that night.
Senior Molleigh Gray and sophomore Bailey Zini are leading the team at the plate thus far, with both batting better than .500.
Sophomore Bethany Walker is doing the majority of the pitching.
The Lady Mustangs, who added a 17-5 win at Jessieville over spring break, are off until next week, which will be a busy one. CAC will play host to conference games against Arkadelphia on Monday, April 7, and Nashville on Tuesday, April 8, play a non-conference game at Maumelle on Thursday, April 10; and then return to conference play at Bauxite onFriday, April 11.
“We are hoping that our strong performance at the plate (at Arkansas Baptist) will carry over into next week’s games,” Amy Zini said.
