Seventeen athletes and four coaches are among the North Little Rock/Maumelle/Sherwood-area representatives for the Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Week activities next week in Conway.

Games pitting East against West in baseball, softball, boys and girls basketball and soccer, volleyball and football are set for the University of Central Arkansas campus. Coaches will report on Father’s Day with players following on Monday.

“It’s a great opportunity to be around a lot of great players and to show what I’ve got,” said Joey Pinney of Central Arkansas Christian, who is on the West baseball roster. “I’ve played with a lot of the guys on the All-Star teams, and it will be great to be with them one last time before we go off to college.”

Practices for all sports will begin Monday. Baseball and softball doubleheaders are set for Tuesday; soccer and volleyball is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19; basketball will go Thursday, June 20; and football will conclude the week’s festivities on Friday, June 21.

For basketball, that means five practices. For football, it’s more. For baseball and softball — the first games to be played — it’s just two.

Besides those activities, the AHSCA Coaches Clinic will run in Conway Tuesday through Friday, June 18-21.

Those squads that have not yet played their games will attend the other All-Star contests during the week to cheer on their new friends.

Pinney, who will play for UCA next year, said the All-Star selection was a reward.
