Veteran volunteers needed

Retired Army Warrant Officer Jim Alberson, who headed up the efforts to build the Maumelle Veterans Memorial at Lake Willastein, said the group was in need of volunteers to help keep the monument clean.

He said all of the current volunteers are in their late 70s and its getting more difficult for them to keep the monument as spiffy and clean as they get older and have less energy to clean it up.

Alberson asked for younger men and women who have served in our country’s Armed Services to help maintain the effort to keep it clean. Over the years vandals have hit the monument several times and others have cleaned fish and disrespected the monument in many ways.

Alberson urged anyone who could help to call him or City Hall to volunteer. He stressed its just not limited to veterans but anyone.

Help is needed immediately he said.
