Two Veterans Day events planned for Maumelle

Maumelle will observe two separate Veterans Day events on Monday.

Once again the Maumelle Players will stage the city’s official celebration at the Lake Willastein Veterans Memorial beginning at 4 p.m. with the pomp and ceremony residents have come to expect in solemn celebration and quiet honor for all those who have ever worn our country’s uniform.

But this year Academics Plus Charter School will dedicate a new flag pole and pay tribute to veterans at 2 p.m.

In announcing the dual observances, Mayor Mike Watson said Veterans Day, unlike Memorial Day, was set aside to honor all those who serve and those who have served, not just those killed in action. He encouraged all residents to take a few minutes and make both events.
