The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program will be holding a trout fishing clinic and derby at Lake Valencia in Maumelle in January 2014.

Benjamin G. Batten, Program Coordinator for the commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program, said, “We will hold a Trout fishing seminar at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Jess Odom Community Center. At this clinic, you will learn everything you need to know to successfully catch trout at Lake Valencia. All ages are welcome to attend the clinic. As a bonus, the first 50 children ages 15 and under will receive a voucher for a free ultra light trout rod and reel combination. All they need to do to get the free rod and reel is come back on Saturday, Jan. 18, and participate in the fishing event which takes place from 9 a.m.– 1 p.m. at Lake Valencia. The lake will be freshly stocked, and AGFC biologists will be on hand to help with fishing advice.

A live DJ will also be entertaining the crowd and they will be giving away fishing related raffle prizes during the event. Everyone is welcome at the fishing clinic, regardless of whether or not they came to the clinic, Batten said.
