Tribute to fallen soldiers, sailors and airmen

Runners braved the wind and rain Sunday, March 17 to run through Maumelle to pay tribute to our state’s fallen war heroes, stopping each mile to place a tribute to a specific hero who was killed in action since Sept. 11, 2001. Arkansas State Police Troop A Commander Keith Eremea said the journey began the day before in Ozark and ended at the State Capitol. The runners were escorted by state police and Maumelle patrol officers. The brisk winds made carrying the bigger flags a chore. Called a Rolling Tribute to Fallen Soldiers, the runners were replaced every mile with a new set of runners to take their space. After placing the tribute, the team of four runners stood at attention and saluted the tribute in honor of a war hero.
