Student honored

Maumelle Middle School Principal Ryan Burgess and Pulaski County Special School District Superintendent Jerry Guess recently awarded eighth-grader Alex Galbraith with an unexpected, special award for citizenship. A Maumelle citizen had written a letter to Guess explaining that she had witnessed Alex, who she did not know, helping a neighbor in the community. When she visited with the teen, he explained that he is in teacher Kristin Herring’s (pictured at right) Leadership and Service Learning elective course at Maumelle Middle School, which encourages volunteerism in the community. Guess and Burgess wanted Alex to be recognized for his efforts, so they surprised him with the award. “Alex, in his quiet work in the Maumelle community, is a positive reflection on his family, the school and the school district,” Guess said. The award was presented by Burgess in the media center in front of Alex’s Leadership classmates and parents.
