Spotlight On The Arts | Maumelle Youth Theater to present Treasure Island – The Musical

The Maumelle Youth Theater, the youth drama production arm of The Maumelle Players will be presenting Treasure Island – Young Pirates of the Caribbean this weekend on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26. Showtime on Friday is 7 p.m. and Saturday is 2 p.m.

The show is just an hour long.

Admission is only $5 a person with a maximum of $30 for large families. Come support your children as they develop a love of the dramatic arts. All shows take place at Little Scholars Academy Theater at 10910 Maumelle Boulevard (in front of the bowling alley).

This is the same Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson adapted as a musical by Kathryn Schultz Miller. We have all the drama and excitement of the original story except the pirates are a whole lot less scary. Come join Jane Hawkins and Long Jen Silver as they have an adventure on Skeleton Island!

This light-hearted voyage across the seas in search of hidden treasure will leave you humming the songs and talking like a pirate as you leave the theater. The Children have been working on this show for over a month now and are a very talented crew. Director Erica Hlebinsky and Youth Director Aaron Woodall have really prepared this group well.

Hlebensky is new to the Maumelle Youth Theater, but Woodall has been with them almost since their inception over 10 years ago. He is now a senior at Maumelle High School and has been in many of their productions. Going from acting to directing the children has been fairly seamless as Children’s Ministry is one of his loves.

The Maumelle Youth Theater Director, Erica Hlebinsky, is a native Arkansan. She holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching Degree from the University of Central Arkansas. She currently teaches 2nd grade at Academics Plus Charter School in Maumelle. Erica began her theater career in high school and did a yearlong internship at the Arkansas Arts Center Children’s Theater after graduating high school.

She attended the University of Central Arkansas as a theater major before falling in love with teaching. Erica also has thirteen years of law enforcement experience serving as a 911 dispatcher. She just finished her directorial debut directing “Pete and the Pint Size Pirate” for the Academics Plus Charter School’s Elementary Drama Enrichment Program. Erica’s passion is helping children realize their creativity through the magic of theater. Her goal is for her energy and love for children to set the tone for the entire experience at the Maumelle Youth Theater. She looks forward to working with the youth theater and The Maumelle Players in the future.
