Retirement event set for Monday for city’s Fire Chief

Maumelle residents are invited to a reception honoring retiring Maumelle Fire Chief George Glenn next Monday.

Event organizer Marion Scott said the event would take place between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the Jess Odom Community Center South room.

Glenn announced last moth that he plans on retiring from the Fire Department at the end of the year.

He has been Maumelle’s only Fire Chief since the old Department of Public Safety split apart from one joint agency where officers performed both fire and police functions as well as emergency medical services.

He shepherded that change and has turned Maumelle’s department into one of the best in the state.

Scott said the event is a drop-in affair and light refreshments would be served.

She urged everyone who knows Glenn to come out and wish him well.

Scott also said Maumelle’s Fire Department has answered a lot of fire, accident and medical calls since Glenn’s been chief. She urged all those the department has helped to come and pay respects to this outstanding public servant.

Mayor Mike Watson has said the city will conduct a regional to national search for Glenn’s replacement.
