The Maumelle Newcomers’ Club is once again offering a $1,000 scholarship award to a resident of Maumelle as well as any immediate family member of a Newcomers’ Club member. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade average and will not be the recipient of a full scholarship. This scholarship is available to those attending a 4-year or 2-year institution or an accredited technical college. Graduate and part-time students are also eligible.

Applications must be postmarked no later than April 26 and are available at the Maumelle Public Library or by calling Scholarship Chairperson, Ann Lewis, at 803-3669.

Applications are reviewed by members of the Maumelle Newcomers’ Club. Selection criteria for the award includes academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, and personal recommendations. All identifying data is guarded so that the review panel is not influenced by personal association with the applicant.

One of the goals of the Maumelle Newcomers’ Club is to support the education of a Maumelle resident. To this end this annual Scholarship has been in place for over 20 years and is funded entirely through donations from the members of the Maumelle Newcomers’ Club.

The recipient of this year’s scholarship will be recognized at a luncheon in May. The 2012 recipient of the scholarship was Charlotte Sweere who is planning on a career in Physical Therapy and is currently pursuing studies at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
