Missing girl found unharmed

A Code Red Alert was issued Friday, May 17 when a ten-year-old Maumelle girl was discovered missing from her home.

Maumelle police chief Sam Williams said police also issued a BOLO, Be On The Lookout, to other police agencies within central Arkansas unsure what happened to the girl.

When the mother discovered the girl missing from her Ozark Drive home she called 911 and police responded searching the neighborhood for the girl.

Williams said that after several hours of frantic searching for the girl she was found safely hiding in a tree house at 101 Maumelle Valley Drive by police.

According to an incident report written by Sgt. Dustin Ivey, the girl’s mother told police the girl had run away from home.

After she was found in the tree house and determined to be in good health, the youngster was returned to her mother a few hours after the incident started.

The first Code Red Alert went out around 5:30 p.m. giving a description of the girl and what clothes she was wearing when last seen.

A second Code Red Alert was issued around 7 p.m., announcing that the girl had been safely found.

With all the abductions around the country and in Arkansas, many Maumelle residents joined police in the search expecting the worst.

The city breathed a collective sigh of relief when the alert was issued reporting that the girl had been found safe and returned home to her mother.
