This fast paced comedy/farce about a young vicar’s wife who is trying to find her place in a small tightly knit town is hilarious and charming. Set in the background of World War II, things go sideways when the pompous church matron comes calling unannounced and a male visitor from the young vicar’s wife past comes to visit (while the good vicar is away). The bishop comes early for his usual visit and an escaped Russian spy hides in the house. The story moves into light but misinterpreted scandal, mistaken identities, the mugging of the good vicar, and the church matron’s introduction to heavy drinking (which she has never done before). Throw in another vicar and a witty maid who has seen too many American movies and you have a comedy that will tickle the rips of even the grumpiest among us.
