The Maumelle City Planning Commission, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, is being asked to grant a conditional use permit for the opening of an adult day care center.
Alice Metcalf of Elite Adult Day Care Center, 301 Millwood Circle, submitted a letter to city planners asking for permit approval. The site is located at the intersection of Millwood Circle and Club Manor Drive.
“The intent of Elite Adult Day Care Center is to provide a program of services in a safe setting for individuals who need some kind of care, supervision and/or socialization,” said Metcalf.
Metcalf said Elite Adult Day Care offers services that help the elderly remain in the community, thus avoiding premature institutionalization.
“(It) also provides a safe environment along with a program of activities and services which helps mentally and physically impaired adults to maintain or improve their level of functioning,” she said.
According to the application, the site’s existing land use is a retail center with varied commercial tenants and businesses.
The application also states that this application remains the second request to locate an adult day care center in Maumelle.
“Use is permissible in location chosen as conditional use,” states the city staff recommendation.
The staff adds, “This lease space formerly housed an adult day care center. Assistant Fire Chief John Payne has previously inspected this location and all fire code requirements have been met. The only changes that the application proposes are a new business sign, and hours of operation will be one hour less than (the) previous adult day care center (7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. instead of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
The staff continues, “The staff recommends for a due pass recommendation to the Maumelle City Council contingent upon any commissioner comments.”
