The Maumelle Lions club recently distributed $6,250 to five organizations continuing the work of assisting Tornado victims. The money was raised from the recycling of aluminum cans via a trailer located in the back of Kroger as well as money raised from the Community Fish Fry conducted in May.

Two thousand dollars was donated to the Arkansas Lions Disaster Relief Fund; $3,000 to the Faulkner County Community Foundation; $500 to the Mayflower Boys and Girls Club; $500 to the Mayflower Elementary School; and $250 to the Community Christmas Card program of the Log Cabin Democrat, the daily newspaper in Conway.

Additionally, the Lions ask that anyone having old or used reading glasses donate them to Lions via boxes which are set up at the following locations: Maumelle Community Center, Kroger, Maumelle Eye Care, Maumelle Chamber of Commerce, Peyton Real Estate and the Maumelle Surgical Hospital.

The Lions of Maumelle wish to thank the community for its generous support. They meet every second Monday evening of each month at 6 p.m. in the Jess Odom Community Center. Guest speaker Monday, Aug. 11 will be Lu Hardin, the former president at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
