Delivery made at Fort Roots

Santa and his elves made an amazing delivery on Friday to the military veterans at Fort Roots in North Little Rock.

The elves were made up of volunteers from the First United Methodist Church of Maumelle including Santa, Nick Jackson of Maumelle.

“We were amazed that we received donations from all over the state,” said Mike Tognetti, one of the volunteers. “We raised $11,000 in cash and donations of socks, underwear, t-shirts, house shoes, sweat pants, pajamas, toiletries, gloves, knit caps, and lap blankets.”

That wasn’t all though, said Tognetti, as each veteran also received a $15 gift card as a total of 332 gift bags were handed out by the men of the United Methodist church.

The committee that organized the giving include: Chair, Bill Jacobs; Co-chair Charleen Akins; Veterans liaison, Mitch Morrisey; Michael R. Dobbs, chief of voluntary services at Fort Roots and committee members Tognetti, Jeremy Smith, Chris Heil, Tim and Jo Manderfield, Wade Mock, Barney Sahene, Jim and Jane Dickson, Darrell Carter, Chris Plant, James Lackey, Steve and Reni Golnick, Jodi Hart, Karen Jacobs, Jeremy Pressgrove, Tony Brainerd, Dr. Luke Conway, and Belinda Ritter.
