Tara Davidson has had enough time to decorate her office and that’s about it.

Davidson was hired less than two weeks ago to be the new executive director of the Maumelle Chamber of Commerce and has hit the ground running.

“I already knew a little bit about what the chamber did,” Davidson, a Mtn. Home native, said. “But I’m working hard to get to know the people and the businesses that make up Maumelle.”

Davidson is new both to the chamber and the business of chambers of commerce as her previous career was working with non-profits, including the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and the March of Dimes. She thinks the skills she learned on those jobs will translate well to chamber work though.

“One of my passions is event planning,” she said. “Everything this chamber does is an event. Whether it is the Leads Over Lunch luncheon or Business After Hours or something like the Expo.”

The next chamber expo is in February and Davidson is already thinking about it.

Davidson, who graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, is also thinking about the goal of adding 50 to 75 new businesses each year to the Chamber.

“We have to look at the businesses here,” she said. “But we also have to look at the surrounding communities. Places like North Little Rock, Cabot, Conway. All those cities and see what they do in Maumelle and if they want to reach the people who live here.”

Next up for Davidson is a Chamber of Commerce board meeting, and learning more about the city she now works in, and including the best places to eat lunch.

“I don’t have a favorite,” she said. “I’ve got some places I need to try though. Cock of the Walk is one. … If it is fried, you know it is going to be good.”
