Chamber luncheon to be held Thursday

Al Canelli expects a crowd.

Canelli, the current president of the Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce, said “I expect 50, 60 people will be there.”

Canelli’s expectations hinge on Thursday’s July Business Brief Luncheon, an every other month event, thrown by the Chamber.

“It should be interesting,” Canelli said. “We’re having a good speaker [Christopher Crane] and he’ll be talking about the importance of the movie business in Arkansas.

Crane is the state’s film commissioner and will discuss his efforts to bring productions to Arkansas.

The state was the country’s first to offer incentives to bring filmmakers to Arkansas. Perhaps, the summer’s best movie,“Mud” was filmed in and around Dumas and other locations in southeast Arkansas.

Canelli wasn’t familiar with any movies that had been filmed in Maumelle. “The Last Ride” a film about Hank Williams, had scenes shot in North Little Rock, and other Arkansas locations.

Lunch will start at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday and cost is $20 per person.

It will be held at the Maumelle Country Club, 100 Club Manor Drive and to RSVP or for more information, call 851-9700.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
