Over 300 supporters of Jon David Bruning packed the Maumelle Country Club for the “Rally Round JD” fundraising event last Friday evening. The Maumelle resident was injured in a recent accident.

Several supporters offered comments to the group after Nashville artist Charity Vance played a short concert. Those who spoke included: Arthur Bennett, head of school at Arkansas Baptist Schools; Arkansas Baptist High School basketball coach Jeff Hogue and high school teammate, Seth Miller.

The presentations ended with a surprise “Skype session” from Atlanta with J.D.’s dad, Dave Bruning, giving a report to the crowd. completing his rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.

Bruning told the crowd that J.D. would be coming home the end of September and thanked everyone for the support and encouragement. The crowd responded with a rousing hog call.

The crowd was a mixture of Maumelle residents, Fayetteville residents, and supporters of Arkansas Baptist Schools, where J.D. attended.

Bruning, 22, is the son of Jacki and Dave Bruning of Maumelle and the grandson of Charleen Akins, also of Maumelle. He was injured in a diving accident on July 6 while floating the Elk River in Missouri causing extensive damage to the vertebrae in his neck.
