Elmcroft Senior Living Community was the site of the yearend concert for the piano students of the Pam Werner piano studio. Students and family members from as far away as Harrison and Morrilton attended this concert. Trophies for various studio honors were presented to Chloe Kordsmeier, Ava Korsmeier, Hannah Duvall, Mychal Duvall, Lily Rudkin, Malia Anderson, Jaymi Hutchison, Jayden Hutchison, Kate McCullough and Abbey Vangsness. In addition to trophies from the local studio Maggie McCullough and Brandon Kraus were awarded the 1st Level Gold Cup for receiving three superiors in the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs annual festival. Tayler Kraus was awarded a 2nd Level Gold Cup for earning six superiors.
In addition to the concert pieces from students ranging in age from 4 to 17, a special violin number, Ashokan Farewell, was played by Rachel Lance, 15, accompanied by her brother, Harry Lance. Harry is a piano student, but has also entertained at previous concerts on the dulcimer, playing with his sister and father (a professor at UCA in Conway).
In other Arts news, auditions were held this past Saturday for the Maumelle Youth Theater (formerly the Maumelle Children’s Community Theater). Turnout for auditions were a little low, and about six more children were needed to fill all roles. Hopefully at this publication, the show is still going on. If it is, one of the needs is for someone to help paint backdrops for sets. The Theater will supply the material if you can supply the talent as a volunteer. Just e-mail me here if you are able to help and I will pass the information on to the director, Denise Loken. Other volunteers are needed in various capacities, so please lend your hand to help promote this wonderful opportunity for Maumelle children.
Lastly, I need all the artists in Maumelle to get in touch with me so I can write about you (or your neighbor). Building an arts community is a challenging task, but if we don’t come together, then it will not happen. Coming together in this column is certainly a great way to start.
