There are many activities this 4th of July weekend, but the one you will not want to miss is your own Maumelle Youth Theater presenting The Emperor’s New Clothes – The Musical! This is the first show since The Pied Piper in 2007. Shows are Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.. Come support your youth who will be performing at Little Scholars Academy at the corner of Counts Massie Road and Maumelle Boulevard. You can get tickets at the door. They are $5.00/person or $30 for a family group.
The Maumelle Players have been helping get the lights and sound up and the show is coming along nicely. The Maumelle Youth Theater will also be having a float in the 4th Fest parade, so watch for them along the parade route.
And speaking of 4th Fest, The City of Maumelle with the particular leadership of Kevin Cummings is adding a little more patriotism to this year’s festivities. In addition to your usual food, games, parade and other activities, there will be some patriotic presentations, including a reading of the Declaration of Independence by a member of The Maumelle Players community theater group. This will all be done in period attire, so here is hoping that the weather continues on a cooler trend.
The parade is at 4:30 p.m. with all of the other activities beginning immediately after the parade at Lake Willastein. Of course, the evening will end with the usual display of fireworks commemorating when “…the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.”
This weekend, come out and show your patriotism as well as support your children as the Maumelle Youth Theater performs, The Emperor’s New Clothes – The Musical.

As usual, I need all the artists in Maumelle to get in touch with me so I can write about you (or your neighbor). Building an arts community is a challenging task. Coming together in this column is certainly a great way to start.
Let us know about your event or organization so we can give it a place in a Spotlight on the Arts feature story or calendar. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
