Schools welcome new principals

Two Maumelle schools in the Pulaski County Special School District are welcoming new administrators this school year.

Ryan Burgess will be taking the helm as principal at Maumelle Middle School and Mary Carpenter is joining Pine Forest Elementary as assistant principal.

Burgess most recently worked at J.A. Fair High School as assistant principal. He began his career in education as a social studies teacher at Dunbar Magnet Middle School in Little Rock, where he also served as assistant principal.

Carpenter has been working in education for 13 years, with the last five of those spent in the Sheridan School District, where she divided her time as assistant principal between East End Elementary and East End Intermediate schools.

She began her career in education in the Hot Springs School District, spending time in gifted education, general education and special education.

Carpenter has been busy in recent weeks getting to know the families and staff at Pine Forest, learning what is already in place and getting her bearings for the new year.

“As of right now, I’m enjoying the new district,” she said.
