When the 5A-Central conference golf tournament is played Wednesday at The Greens at North Hills, the North Pulaski Falcons won’t be trying to win a boys’ title but will defend the girls’ title.
With only two boys on the team, the Falcons can’t compete for the boys’ championship. However, senior Chad Nelson and junior Hunter McPherson will try and qualify for the state tournament as individualists.
“This is the first year we haven’t competed as a boys’ team,” North Pulaski Coach Robbie Walker said. “We had 15 signed up at the end of last year, and four working over the summer.”
The top three teams and the next three individuals not on one of those teams qualify for state in early October. By adding a girl last week, North Pulaski does have enough girls to defend last year’s conference title.
Seniors Jessica Erwin and Tara Holt have been playing all season. Junior Allie Baxter joined the team last week, and Walker is hoping the three are able to play in the conference tournament next week so the Falcons can field a team. He is not sure of their chances but knows a title is not out of the question.
“They are a good group of kids and fun to be around,” Walker added. “They have done O.K. and have made improvements through the year.”
