The freshmen Red Devils track team traveled to Vilonia on Tuesday for their first meet and came away with several solid performances.
Even without the benefit of much practice time lately, Jacksonville had more than a couple athletes place in the top three.
Speedster Jaylon Tucker finished second place in the 200m at 23.51 and was seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 11.67. Tucker and Robert Knowlin tied with each other for second in the high jump with a height of 5’7.
Two Red Devils placed in the long jump with Fonzell Jones placing fifth and KaJohn Daniels finishing in seventh place.
Jones also had a good showing in the 400m run with a time of 58.98.
For the girls, Amber Lockhart took first place in her 100-meter dash heat with a 13.54 time.
The boys 4x100m relay team was good for third place at a time of 37.48.
The highlight of the meet for Jacksonville was Anthony Riley in the discus, placing first place easily after a monstrous throw of 146.10 feet.
“With spring break and the kind of weather we’ve had, we just haven’t been able to practice much,” said Jacksonville coach Tirrell Brown. “I told them that this meet was going to be all about heart and determination and they showed a lot of both.”
