The Jacksonville Lady Red Devils tuned up for Thursday’s state tournament game with a double-header at Sylvan Hills Monday afternoon.
Sylvan Hills finished as the top seed from the 5A-Central with a perfect 12-0 record. Jacksonville finished second, with their only two conference losses coming to the Lady Bears.
The two conference foes give each other the best representation of the kind of competition they’re likely to see in the state tournament.
Sylvan Hills got the better of Jacksonville again, this time handing the Lady Devils an 8-2 and 7-3 losses.
Jacksonville held a brief 2-0 lead in the first game thanks to a two-run inside-the-park homer by Bailea Mitchell. Sylvan Hills tied the game in the next inning, then put together a big six-run inning in the sixth to take control of the win.
Kimley Burrows had a pair of hits in the second game of the double-dip, the only hits for the Lady Red Devils.
Jacksonville will take on the Alma Airedalettes in the opening game of the 5A State Tournament in Hope. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 start at Lady Cat Yard.
Sylvan Hills will play at noon against the Morrilton Lady Devil Dogs, the fourth seed from the 5A-West. Other action from the 5A-Central conference will see the North Pulaski Lady Falcons taking on a tough Vilonia Lady Eagles squad at 2:30. Little Rock Christian, the Central’s fourth seed, faces an uphill battle against Greenbrier, the conference champ from the West.
