Jacksonville’s Markela Bryles drives to the lane against K.K. Fulton
The Jacksonville Lady Red Devils’ romp through the 5A-Central this past week with mercy-rule wins over Sylvan Hills, Little Rock McClellan and Little Rock Mills.
Jacksonville began their three-game stretch with a 58-25 win over Sylvan Hills Friday night at home. The Lady Devils led 54-17 heading into the fourth quarter. Jessica Jackson and Shakyla Hill had more points in the first half than Sylvan Hills had in the game. Jackson scored 17 points, with 14 of those coming in the first half. Hill finished with 14 points - 12 in the opening half. Markela Bryles added 10 points in the win.
“We’re trying to find the right balance of playing time for everyone,” said Jacksonville coach Katrina Mimms. “We want to keep everyone in shape and sharp for the playoffs.”
The Lady Devils had an extra game Saturday afternoon with a makeup contest against the McClellan Lady Lions. Jacksonville set the clock running early in this one, a 65-35 win.
Jackson led the Lady Devils with 22 points, followed by Hill’s 11 points. Bryles was right behind with nine points.
Tuesday night saw Jacksonville go to The Galaxy at Mills and start using reserves early in a 72-37 win.
Jackson scored 11 points in the first quarter on the way to a 20-point night. Hill scored 12 points for the Lady Devils, while Sasha Richardson made a pair of three-pointers and scored eight points - all in the second quarter.
Jacksonville will host Little Rock Christian on Friday. The Lady Devils should have little trouble getting ready for the Lady Warriors, who led Jacksonville at halftime in their first meeting.
The Lady Red Devils came back to outscore the Lady Warriors by 25 points in the second half, but they do know that Christian has the ability to make it close if Jacksonville is having an off-night.
