JACKSONVILLE GIRLS BASKETBALL | Some wins in Wynne

The Jacksonville Lady Red Devils were busy in a good way over the Christmas break, finishing third in the Wynne Invitational Tournament.

Jacksonville destroyed the Wynne Lady Yellowjackets in the opening game of the tournament, fell to a tall and talented Little Rock Central team in the second round, and then beat the typically powerful Little Rock Parkview Lady Patriot team in the third place game.

The first game saw Jacksonville beat up Wynne 73-36 behind a balanced attack. The Lady Devils were on a 100 points pace at halftime before calling off the wolves. Tiffany Smith, Antrice McCoy and Keke Alcorn each scored 12 points for Jacksonville. Markela Bryles was right behind the leaders with 11 points, while Sacha Richardson added nine points.

Featuring a pair of six-footers, the Central Lady Tigers had too much size for Jacksonville in a 64-51 win

Jacksonville’s best post-player, Bryles, was still able to lead the Lady Devils with 13 points. Jacksonville’s defense wasn’t able to contain the Lady Tigers in the paint, however. Perimeter shooters Smith and Alcorn were next for the Lady Devils, with Alcorn scoring 12 and Smith adding 11 points.

Little Rock Parkview doesn’t have the same kind of talent that took them to a state championship recently, but was still a very solid win for Jacksonville as the Lady Devils earned a 67-54 victory.

The Lady Patriots actually held a slim lead over the Lady Devils at halftime, but Jacksonville was able to pull away in the third and fourth quarters.

Bryles continued to get her basketball legs under her and led all scorers with 17 points. The Lady Devils showed their balance on offense as Smith and McCoy were just behind Bryles with 14 points each. Alcorn was also in double figures with 11 points.
